Position Overview
Burt Township School District, nestled along the pristine shores of Lake Superior in Grand Marais, Michigan, seeks a dynamic and dedicated K–12 Principal to lead our rural, single-building school with vision, integrity, and care. This is a full-time leadership position offering a unique opportunity to serve a close-knit school community where relationships matter and leadership is personal.
The Principal serves as the instructional and cultural leader of the school—responsible for guiding academic excellence, empowering educators, engaging families, and managing day-to-day school operations. The successful candidate will be a visionary, resilient, and collaborative leader who thrives in a hands-on environment, champions equity and excellence, and builds strong community partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership & Academic Excellence
- Guide strategic instructional practices across all grade levels (K–12)
- Implement a guaranteed and viable curriculum aligned with state standards
- Use data to monitor student performance and drive continuous school improvement
- Support differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners
- Promote high expectations, innovation, and inclusive academic environments
- Oversee accurate documentation of assessment data and compliance reporting
School Culture & Daily Operations
Create a safe, positive, and inclusive school environment for students and staffManage discipline, attendance, and student support systems with consistency and careCoordinate school events, activities, and extracurricular programsBe a visible, accessible, and engaged presence throughout the school dayStaff Development & Support
Conduct classroom observations and meaningful evaluations to improve teaching practicesFoster a professional culture of collaboration, growth, and shared leadershipProvide targeted coaching and professional learning opportunitiesEncourage innovation while holding staff to high expectationsCommunity Engagement & Collaboration
Cultivate relationships with parents, families, and local organizationsServe as a trusted liaison between the school and Grand Marais communityCommunicate clearly and transparently with all stakeholdersPartner with the Superintendent to advance shared district goalsQualifications Required :
Valid Michigan Teaching CertificateMichigan School Administrator Certification or eligibility to obtainProven success in instructional leadership and school operationsStrong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skillsCommitment to active participation in school and community lifePreferred :
